Really depends what sp. The one shown, is indeed a "cow killer" There is also "mini" velvet ants, which are like 5mm and sting do not hurt nearly as bad. I am not sure I would call this "cow killers"
Ok, the ones that I have seen are the 5mm ones.
I have seen some pink 5mm ones, I almost caught it

Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

also be very careful because they have an insanely painful sting
