Really Cool Looking Queen Ant?

Hi everyone!

I just caught this little lady and I'm starting to wonder if it is even an ant...

Size: 6-12 mm
When: Today September 20 12:00
Where: Sidewalk near some grass
Appearance: small, red thorax, striped and pointy gaster
Behaviour: spunky. she was hard to catch. Super fast and wouldn't crawl up the test tube. She seemed to be stinging at the cotton and is not enticed by a drop of honey

After further research I have concluded this is a velvet ant, which is not an ant at all, but a wasp! AND the females are indeed wingless!

Yep, it's a velvet ant, I find a lot of these.
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

I consider myself a fairly observant person, but all the things I see on the ground now since starting to look for queens is surprising!

I know, after I started keeping ants I have seen, and learned a lot, even about other insects! :)

She’s a i tiny velvet ant. The ones I find are much larger(17mm) and make noise if threatened.
