Red queen ant, Batavia, IL (possibly red harvester ant)
I recently caught this red queen ant and I don't know what type of queen ant it is.
Place: Batavia, IL.
Time: September 10, around 6:00
Size: About 9mm
Appearance: Dark red, light red gaster, rounded pointy gaster, bulky thorax slightly higher than head, thinner head than wide.
Behavior: Kind of slow, moving from one test tube to the other.
Additionally: I don't understand how to post images using imagur.com, so if someone could please explain to me how to do that, that would be nice.

Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

Thanks! I'll use this if I ever get a good picture of her. I have a feeling she is pogonomyrmex occidentalis.

Well, according to ant maps, Pogonomyrmex occidentalis does not live in Illinois. Could you maybe put some pictures here?

Oh, I guess it must be a different type of pogonomyrmex. Yes, I'll get a picture the next time I check on her.

I just checked, and according to antmaps.org there aren't any species of pogonomyrmex, so I think it might be Aphnaenogaster, and there are 9 species in Illinois:
Aphaenogaster carolinensis
Aphaenogaster fulva
Aphaenogaster lamellidens
Aphaenogaster mariae
Aphaenogaster picea
Aphaenogaster rudis
Aphaenogaster tennesseensis
Aphaenogaster texana
Aphaenogaster treatae
It might be one of these

After doing some research, I've narrowed it down to 4 possibilities:
A. Fulva
A. Rudis
A. lamellidens
A. tennesseensis
She is doing well .

Could be occidentalis if someone released alates(You can legally cross occidentalismo over state borders)
When you accidentally reply to yourself…

That is an interesting idea, I think I'll look into it. Also, I'll get a picture of her on Friday.
