Identification for two queen ants.
The first ant was caught in Providence RI, at a baseball diamond.
She is 8mm long, and is a light orangish-brown.
Her head is darker than her body.
More active in her test tube when exposed to light.
Caught July 28th, 2022, (evening).

The second queen was caught in Southern New Hampshire, On Mt. Monadnock (Lower part of the Mountain).
She is just a little over 1cm, and she exhibits a dark brown to black coat.
Much calmer than her counterpart; Remained calm during examination.
Caught August 6th, 2022, (late morning).

Hi, I am not sure about the first one, but I’m pretty sure the second one is Formica. Sorry I can’t help you with the first one, but somebody else will probably know!Maliciousmealworms wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 7:35 pmThe first ant was caught in Providence RI, at a baseball diamond.

Hope this helps!
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

Thank you! I know I am definitely not a photographer, so I'll try and retake the pictures for the first ant. These are actually my first queen ants so I am sorry for any poor pictures or descriptions, but again thank you.

Don’t be to concerned about the photos, sure it’s nice to have really good photos, but these are good enough that they should work. The description is really good, having a good description helps us a lot to id them. Congrats on your first queens, Formica is a good beginner species!Maliciousmealworms wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 2:04 pmThank you! 1) Looks like Solenopsis. Are you sure those measurements are correct? I recall their ant queens being quite a bit smaller.Maliciousmealworms wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 7:35 pmThe first ant was caught in Providence RI, at a baseball diamond.

2) Like antperson24 said, it is Formica, most likely Formica subsericea or a closely related species. Same care as Formica fusca

Re: Identification for two queen ants.
Oh yes sorry about that, I retook the measurements for the first ant an she seems to be about 6mm not 8mm. It's a bit hard to tell because she likes to run around a lot. Though I'm fairly sure it's at least 5mm to 6mm, on the higher spectrum. As you did say she is very small, and I think you might be right about her being a Solenopsis sp. And also thank you for confirming it was Formica for the second queen.
