Size: 14mm
When: 3:00 pm CST
Where: In my garage
Appearance: Black and she seems to have silver stripes on her abdomen
Behavior: As soon as I put her in a test tube setup she was very calm
Picture(s):

Additionally: I know she is Formica but not sure what species
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

Formica fusca group. I doubt you will get a confident ID without a worker specimen under a microscope. If I had to guess, Formica subsericea

Ok thanks. She is definitely different than some other Formica I have kept. Is there a smaller species that you know of that looks like her and has brown legs? Because I have a colony of the smaller ones.

I will list two synonyms of Formica Fusca(American version), but there is more I cannot list.

F. Argenta
F. Subsericea

I only keep subsericea so I wouldn’t know. Besides, there is almost no Formica that are black like that in my area.
