You can use any kind of jelly, just make sure it doesn't contain anything that may harm the ants which is unlikely for most kinds of jelly. If you want to be safe, use can buy beetle jelly or make your own.JaydenScheepers wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 12:46 amIs that any sort of jelly, like the jelly you would make at home, or does it have to be a certain kind?SYUTEO wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 9:25 pmYesJaydenScheepers wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 5:46 pm
Understood thanks. I'm curious, is jelly a good sugar source for ants?

I wanted trap jaw ants so bad when I first started, but my queen always ate mature larvae(She died). One thing I learned from that is you always get another opportunity(with ants).

My queen died by drowning it seemed like. I recently caught a trap jaw queen, and I'm super happy I got her, that species is like my favorite. If you have, could you share some advice for trap jaws?SolenopsisKeeper wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 5:30 amJaydenScheepers wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 5:28 amThis is truly a sad day, my Asian turtle ant dealate passed away

I would upload a picture of her setup if I could. What do I do about mites, when I look at the test tubes for maintenance I often see tiny white mites. How do I get rid of them and what do I do if they get to my ants? (Their outside the test-tubes... for now anyway).JaydenScheepers wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 6:43 amMy queen died by drowning it seemed like. If they are outside you should be able to wipe them off with a wipe. You can also try putting a small slice of lemon in each tube to prevent them from enteringJaydenScheepers wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 7:22 amI would upload a picture of her setup if I could. Do you mean in the test-tube or in the drawer containing the test-tubes, and if in the test-tube then won't the acid from the lemon damage or agitate the ants?SolenopsisKeeper wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 8:42 amIf they are outside you should be able to wipe them off with a wipe. It shouldn’t damage them, that’s how you get rid of mites in colonies. The queens may not like it(stress), so stick to wiping them unless they get in the tubes.JaydenScheepers wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 8:50 amDo you mean in the test-tube or in the drawer containing the test-tubes, and if in the test-tube then won't the acid from the lemon damage or agitate the ants?SolenopsisKeeper wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 8:42 amIf they are outside you should be able to wipe them off with a wipe.
