I have gotten my first queen ant. These ants were found in southern Florida around the city of Miami. May someone please tell me what species of ants these are and how to properly care for them. The ant seem to be tired and sees to go on the wet cotton and relax there. I found this ant in my garage and so far i have not seen any like it nearby so o believe that it has already mated. The ant is smaller than a usb cord.

If you can't see the queen in your pictures, then neither can we. You also need to include measurements.

So the ants are over a foot long? That's amazing. There's no true substitute for an actual measuring tool. ;)

Unless any of them are 8mm or larger, they are probably all Pheidole -- no chance at identifying the species without some exceptionally intense macro.

Most likely Pheidole, then. Thank you for embedding your pictures!

I was thinking that or invicta, but with the new info, I'd say Pheidole.

does it seem to have mated and what species is it?

Also, is this the right for this question?
