Ant Id
I have 3 of these small colonies all caught in VA.
All three have stopped laying eggs about a month ago which leads me to think they might not be solenopsis.
Any help ID'ing them would be greatly appreciated

Re: Ant Id
Looks like some species of Camponotus. They are hibernating so it's natural for them to stop laying eggs at this time of the year.

Re: Ant Id
You might be right. If I remember right they did have cocoons.
Anyone have any ideas for the possible subgenus if they are Camponotus?
Re: Ant Id
Did some digging, closest ones I found that are native to VA:
Camponotus castaneus
Camponotus snellingi
Camponotus subbarbatus
Thoughts?

Re: Ant Id
Size? They could also be Formica biophilica.

Re: Ant Id
Could also be that, not sure which one though.
