Aloha everyone!
I've been trying to find an ant queen the last few days as I'd really like to get into this hobby. I found a larger ant today and managed to get it into a little bottle, but I am having my doubts it's an actual queen.. Could someone assist me in identifying if this is in fact a queen, and what species it is?

Mahalo for your help!

It looks like a queen to me. Try looking for wing scars on her thorax (the middle section) tell us how big she is and try to post some better pictures. I thought it was a bull ant queen but they aren't found in Hawaii. It could be trap jaw ant
Edit- i looked closely and it isn't a trap jaw ant

It could be a species from technomyrmex or pseudomyrmex. Try having a look at antweb. Org or ant wiki

Re: Is This a Queen?
I added another photo I was able to snag. She is about 1/8 almost 1/4 inch in length.
I cant really see any wing scars on her, and her thorax sorta looks like its similar size to the rest of her, but there is a little bit of a wider "shelf" at the top of it.
I'll go check antweb to see if they look similar!

Leptogenys cf falcigera. It's highly unlikely to find a queen of Leptogenys above ground as they have ergatoid (wingless, worker-like) queens and they almost never leave the nest and they don't have nuptial flights (except for two species in South America which winged queens do exist).
