Help with identifying the species your ants

Lexington Ky 4:00pm 10/31/2016

At the dog park and they were everywhere but all had wings. I didn't see a nest nearby but seem to be all of the same species. All are about 3mm and I don't see any distinct features different from each but haven't spent to much time looking at them.

I looked up the Myrmica sp. and they sound like they take over other colonies. Does that mean I can't start a colony with them?

These are probably not social parasites -- just semi-claustral. If they are mated, you just have to feed them.

3mm is kinda small for myrmica

I agree. I don't necessarily trust the measurement. None of the small myrmicine look-alikes fly at this time of year.

A parasitic Myrmica might actually be this size, but I can't see the post-petiole clearly enough to make that distinction.

Parasitic myrmica is actually 5mm I hAve seen them personally

Most of them are smaller. How did you identify her?

I saw her in another myrmica nest so it's mostly just assumptions but she was worker sized and definitely a queen
