Queen Ant ID
I have found many of these queens in my area. This one unfortunately died so I took a few pictures of it. Can you help me identify it?
The length of this ant is approximately 8-10 mm (when alive). I live in Rhode Island, US. Four images here:

I think this is be the local pavement ant (Tetramorium immigrans), due to size and how many I have found. But I look forward to hearing from you all what it might be.
Thanks!

Re: Queen Ant ID
I agree with you, sadly I live in Manitoba, Canada so I don’t have tetramorium immagrans, though based on other pics they look similar.
Hopefully you’ll successfully raise a colony

Are the pictures of the same queen?the first one looks as if it is colobopsis mississippiensis.

Re: Queen Ant ID
Possibly a small Solenopsis/Monomorium queen.

Re: Queen Ant ID
Too large to be monomorium, but could be solenopsis.if they are different queens, then probably the first one is colobopsis,as it seems to have a flat head.

Re: Queen Ant ID
It's definitely not Colobopsis because it is a Myrmicinae ant which has two petiole nodes, Colobopsis only has one.Tritonspaceants wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 6:22 amToo large to be monomorium, but could be solenopsis.if they are different queens, then probably the first one is colobopsis,as it seems to have a flat head.

Oh sorry I hadn't noticed this thread had received responses. This is the same queen in all photos. So this is not Tetramorium ? I guess it's too big... Oh wow, I thought they were Tetramorium for several weeks...
My book about New England ants does not include Colobopsis as a known Genus in this area.
According to the key matrix for medium sized ants 3mm to 5 mm, and without greater magnification, this could be a Myrmica. ??

Re: Queen Ant ID
No, that queen is definitely not Myrmica due to the size of the gaster.Gardener wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 11:39 amOh sorry I hadn't noticed this thread had received responses. Re: Queen Ant ID
It's been a while but I found another queen this morning that looks like the same type. The queen is about 8 mm long. If the average worker ends up being 3 to 5 mm, my book keeps pointing to Myrmica, and if the average is under 3 mm, it's unclear. Is the gaster again too large for Myrmica? Here are photos....
Re: Queen Ant ID
It turn out she might be Tetramorium (but not immigrans) or Myrmecina americana and possibly even Pheidole.
