3 queens of Malta.
Hi All, I am totally new at this and would appreciate any help
Caught 3 Queens's (or at least I think they are) in October in Malta (Europe), they are aprox 12mm in length, black, have a very boxy head. They had wings and they shed them as soon as I caught them.
If you can help me identify them that would be great. Sorry about the images, super hard to photo something that small and the test-tube is not round but has magnified edges (its what I found locally in a hurry).

Re: 3 queens of Malta.
You said she shed her wings so she is a queen. Its hard to tell what she is the photos are not very good.
My current colonies:
-Miniature Military(formica neogagates)
-Black Hearts(crematogaster cerasi)
In search of new camponotus colony
[Have a look at antmaps.org]

Re: 3 queens of Malta.
Thanks for your reply. here are 3 more pics of another one. I'm aware she has a missing Leg . was hoping in captivity she would do better then in the wild.
Re: 3 queens of Malta.
hi, i am pretty sure it is a camponotus modoc queen (i'm talking about the one with a missing leg ). look it up on google and compare it to the queen you have, (you have the best view). it was quite hard to tell because i couldn't see the abdomen very well. another image of the abdomen or a birds eye view (even better) of the whole ant would make it alot easier to identify .

Its not camponotus as you can see two petiole nodes and campo only have one.

Probably some not commonly know species, like Camponotus’s floridanus’s cousin, Camponotus tortoganus.
When you accidentally reply to yourself…
