My girlfriend found this ant on May 28, 2020 18:00 EST in Bristol County, Massachusetts, USA.

We are curious what kind and if she really is a Queen?

sad to report she was dead this morning when I checked on her.

she seemed really healthy and vital when we put her in the tube.

is this common?

ambient temperature in the room was between 68-72 degrees

the tube was sitting on a desk and we wrapped the tube with a piece of foil to block out light and put a small box over it

Good news, we found another queen this morning wandering around in the foyer of our building.

She walked right into her tube and beelined to the water and has been drinking ever since.

Hopefully we have better luck this time.

Hi Kung Fu!

That was definitely a Camponotus Queen indeed. You might be interested in joining our Camponotus Crew thread. A couple of our members have captured queens of the same species in the last 2 weeks. So you'll be able to exchange experiences with them. If you're interested check the link in my signature.
