I managed to catch a wild colony of fire ants in socal, but cannot tell what kind of solenopsis. I have found they are Solenopsis though.
The majors have a lobed head, black gaster on 98% of them, the rest have half brown, half red gasters. they are a light red/orange color too.
Aspiring ant-keeper

I keep:
Lasius. Niger:3 queens, 50 workers
 Solenopsis. Geminata: 1 queen, 1-2K workers, 1-200 majors (including super major, sub major, etc)
Still need a name for my colonies, queen fire ant is dubbed "Karen"

If you live in a desert region like California, Texas or Arizona. It's most likely Solenopsis xyloni or invicta. If you live in a tropical or temperature region it's most likely Solenopsis geminata. Hope this helps :P But an not a experienced fire ant keeper so I might be wrong.

its desert/ temperate, I know it isn't Invicta though cause it doesn't have the third upper tooth. Xyloni are rare here though since Invicta has kinda wiped them out in my area.
