Hello Fellow Ant Keepers,
This ant I found recently at Tamborine Mountain, Queensland, Australia. I've attenpted to research what species of ant this is but can't find anything that matches. She has just also just recently layed her first clutch of eggs after being offered food. Would anyone be able to help me with this?

Also does anyone know how to add attachments as all I get is "status: sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached".

Hello!
Here's a video tutorial on posting pictures
https://forum.AntsCanada.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=162

Once you'll post some photos it'll be way easier to ID her. Could you also make an extimation about her size, please?

Thanks for the help, I'll check the video when I get the chance. I've done some research and believe her to be a species of Ponera. I've found another queen that looks similar, however slightly different colouring. Not sure how many species of Ponera can be found in Queensland, Australia.

Cheers ShadowNova

No problem! ;)
Here's a list of Ponera subspecies I've found in Queensland, Australia.
  • Ponera clavicornis
  • Ponera incerta
  • Ponera leae
  • Ponera selenophora
  • Ponera swezeyi
  • Ponera tenuis
If you want to look up all available species in your region yourself you may want to use Antmaps.org, such a useful tool! ;)

Thanks for the help Unreal Sparks, this photo is old as she now has a fairly large clutch of eggs now. Still finding it hard to pinpoint the direct species with the list of Ponera species you provided. Hope the image helps. Also, unfortunately I can't show the other possible Ponera Queen I have as she has created her founding chamber in the setup I got her. The only way I can describe her is that she looks similar to the Queen Ant in the photos above, but with a silver sheen.
