https://prnt.sc/pbimslSo please forgive me ahead of time because I am very new to the ant keeping society, but I've just attempted to catch my first queen but the problem is, I have no idea if it's a queen or not... ANY help identifying the species and whether it is a queen, would be much appreciated. Also, please forgive the terrible pics,it was actually rather late and I was trying my best given the fact that I lack a macro lens..

Hi, the ant in your image is hard to see, but there are features that look similar to 2 queens I caught recently.

I posted about it here:
https://forum.AntsCanada.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=15804

Let me know if that helps, also try to get a picture from the side/above so we can see if there are wing scars.

*Update* I've caught 2 more Queens of the same kind from what I believe to be the same colony. (I have an are of patio pavers that stretches about 10 feet square and these were found on the surface just by overturning the pavers) Two were found within just a few inches of one another and the other was found on the very opposite side, so I'm guessing the colony has several satellite nests in that area.. I can confirm that they are Queens, I've had the first two in their own test tubes and have observed many eggs which have appeared overnight. I collected the third queen and relocated her directly into a small formicarium along with about 10 workers and quite a few eggs. However, I'm still unsure of the species, I don't believe then to be acorn ants because acorn ants are arboreal. (Please correct me if I'm wrong) and I'm not so sure they're myrmex due to the fact that I had been squatting very closely in parts of the nest and they didn't show the normal fire ant behavior of attacking my shoes.. Although in the panic of being exposed, they didnt take too kindly to a large grub that was squirming nearby and Began swarming it completely.. Also I managed to get several that crawled into my hand without any immediate aggression.. On another note, I observed what I'm assuming to be majors or super majors, among the others who's heads were quite a bit larger in respect to their bodies.. Could it be possible that these are pheidole? https://m.imgur.com/gallery/Vac72FT
