Help with ID - 8/21/16 SC, USA

Caught 8/21/16 (this afternoon) in South Carolina around the Irmo/Chapin area. Was found climbing a brick wall above sparse grass and measured ~9.5mm.

I'll be honest, I have no idea whether its actually a queen, this is the first ant I've ever caught, and I caught this one due to its sheer size overall, size and shape of its thorax, and coloration compared to the usual tiny black ants that live near my home.

Yep, one google search and I see at least 10 images on the front page that look exactly like it. Back to the hunt I suppose!

I wish it were a queen. It is amazing looking, same with the velvet ants, which are also wasps.
