Can you guys help me identify this ant? The research I have done suggests a Tetramorium caespitum queen. What do you guys think? If it is a tetramorium, I assume it's a queen because it doesn't have the segmented butt that the male is supposed to have, nor two sets of wings, I think. It's about 6mm long, so it wasn't really til I took pics that I was even sure it was an ant, it's so small. I'll try to get clearer pics out in daylight but, again, this ant is super small so it was difficult to get super-crisp images, especially in low light and without a tripod.

i'd say your spot on there looks like a pavement ant to me, must of been the ant gods at work whispering in that queens subgenual organ
1x Lasius Niger - early forging stage - 60-100 workers
1x Messor Barbarus - founding stage - <20 workers
1x Camponotus Turkestanus - claustral stage - 1 nanitic + brood
1x Odontoponera Transversa - semi-claustral stage - no eggs

Hehehe, I are very lucky, and also a SMRT. Ever since the Lasius niger flights I've kept a few containers on my keyring for just such an occasion, coz you never know when you'll just happen upon a queen and that way I can collect and transport them on the spot.LasiusSapien wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2019 12:08 pmi'd say your spot on there looks like a pavement ant to me, must of been the ant gods at work whispering in that queens subgenual organ
I have no idea if she's mated or not though, so we'll have to wait and see how that goes. She has been dubbed Queen Antigone and is now in her own test tube setup, which I've upgraded for all the queens using red acetate screens to better observe them with minimal disturbance.
