So I found an ant queen wandering around Camp Whitsett in the high Sierras in early July 2019. She’s black with a red thorax, and I’m pretty sure she might be a carpenter ant. Anyone know the species? I put iCloud links to the images below.

The pictures were a little hard to read, but if she is a big ant, Like two cm. Then it might be a Camponotus novaboricensus.
Keep:
3 camponotus pennsylvanicus
2 formica subsericea

That's 100% a Formica sp queen. Formica Moki perhaps?TbugTheAntMan wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 10:23 amSo I found an ant queen wandering around Camp Whitsett in the high Sierras in early July 2019. Well, what a great coincidence!
Well, when I thought she was camponotus, I went shopping for a hybrid nest. The camponotus one was out of stock, so I got Formica. So if it IS Formica, then I made the right choice.
