Help Identifying Queen Species

Hi all,

I caught a queen ant a few weeks ago and it already has a number of eggs. I just wanted to figure out what species of ant she is and what type of nest is most appropriate for this species. She's about 1.5cm (0.59 inches) long and was found in the Toronto area, specifically a residential zone.

Below is a link to a photo of the unidentified ant:

If the photo is too blurry, please let me know.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks a bunch!!

Wow she's a beauty! I think you have a Carpenter queen there, although I would expect her to be a bit bigger.
Check antwiki for camponotus in your area. I suspect she might be Camponotus herculeanus or Camponotus vicinus but it's hard to tell from the picture. Plus these 2 species look very similar.

If you like, come join our band of Camponotus keepers (last link in my signature) to compare notes on our progressing colonies.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I'll definitely look into what setups are best for her.

Thanks again for the help!
