Hello, I need help identifying this queen ant. It was caught 19th October 2018 in Telheiras, Lisbon, Portugal. The first worker just born this June 7 2019. This picture was taken the day I caught her (I hope the quality is good enough ...) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gZqPB7lGyvz_itDHbS9RPAcO0lkHuB4J/view?usp=sharing

Re: Lisbon_Telheiras_Portugal_20181019_10mm Queen ant identification help
Many thanks, it looks like it. When I was searching for a species, I initially thought it was a Messor barbarus due to its red head, but I have null experience with this. However, after your answer I looked with a different eye to my photos and it´s not only the head that is red...And effectively this queen resembles very nicely to Camponotus ruber. In order to be sure about it, what should I look for? Can you help me? Many thanks.Hawkeye wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2019 1:36 pmCould it be Camponotus ruber?faftdo wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2019 1:56 pmHi, I just realized that did not post the links correctly. Here they are.

Glad I could offer some assistance. Well, I'd say try to study your queen more closely and compare it to the pictures and the description of the species.faftdo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 3:16 pmMany thanks, it looks like it. Wait a minute... Did you actually start the post with a description of the length of your queen being 10mm? If that is the case she isn't really big enough to be a carpenter ant...faftdo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2019 12:42 pmHello, I need help identifying this queen ant. Re: Lisbon_Telheiras_Portugal_20181019_10mm Queen ant identification help
Yes, it is around 10 mm. Maybe it would be easy to find the species looking at the worker. I already have 7 workers. I´ll try to get a good enough photo of one of them.Hawkeye wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 3:57 pmWait a minute... Did you actually start the post with a description of the length of your queen being 10mm? Nah the Queen is good, I just went by the colorscheme thinking she was a Camponotus. Didn't pay enough attention
