Been a while since I've been here. I'm not entirely sure if this is a queen, but her abdomen looks too large to be a worker and her behavior reminds me of my other queens.
1.
2. I caught her in Naperville, IL USA Today (6/7/19)
3. She is roughly 8 mm, Her abdomen, thorax, and head area really dark brown, but there is tinge of red, strongly on the thorax. Her thorax is pretty small, but looks very similar to other queen thoraxes I've seen. She does have similar behavior to a queen, ei she tries to hide when exposed to light (I found her in an old sandbox) and at least once so far she's groomed near the tip of her abdomen.
I'll admit my phone isn't the best at taking pictures.

Camponotus nearcticus.
An ants' strength can be rivaled by few animals compared to relative body size.

Thank you! I might ask around in a different section about general care for this girl. I think she has lain an egg though, she has been pulling some of the cotton as well. I'm looking forward to this species!
