These ants were found in central Saskatchewan. Can you please have a look and tell me what they are. My 7 year old is hoping one of them will be the start of her first colony and we want to research more about this species.
They are about 1.5 cm long. Caught in the early evening between 5-7 PM.

Congratulations on the catch! They both seem to be some type of Camponotus. Possibly Camponotus pennsylvanicus.
