ANT QUEEN IDENTIFICATION

Post: # 53962Post Spyneft

Hello, last week I caught 2 queens and I want to identify them (Also I want to see if they are polygynous).
I caught them in Greece, outside my house and they are only 1cm long.
Thank you :)

Hi Spyneft,

Keep in mind I'm not an expert but I've done quite a big research and came up with "Crematogaster sp." which is present in Greece.
Unfortunately, if my identification is correct, there are no polygynous species of Crematogaster in your country.

Crematogaster queens can reach 8 mm in length but what confuses me is that their nutial flights usually end in October in Europe (but sometimes if the conditions are right, there can be late flights)

Here's two links to some videos of a Crematogaster Scutellaris queen so you can better compare them (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qu2yeqXj5M4 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDP_0_yt_xc).

I'll also include some pictures about Crematogaster queens in general below.

PS. You provided some very nice pictures for the ID! :)
