dear pez1077

you should probably put a photo and sizing so that we know what species it is. or if you know what it looks like it maybe a clear description of its characteristics.

Hi everyone! I just caught a queen any and would appreciate some help with identification. She is a rusty brown color and about 1cm long, not including her antennae. Caught in the west side, central Nevada. Mahalo pleanty for the help!

You should make your own post so it’s easier for people to see rather than replying to someone else’s post.

Looks like you have there Solenopsis invicta (RED IMPORTED FIRE ANT). I can’t be sure though because I don’t have any experience with this species so you will need a second opinion.

Actually it looks too small to be a solenopsis invicta queen. Looks more like a solenopsis invicta major, but the thorax does look like it is a queen so I have no idea. This is why I don’t ID queens lol.

Could be Myrmica Rubra? European fire ant. Too early for them to be flying though.

Hi there!

- https://imgur.com/gallery/uynOzXi This is a Camponotus queen and she looks like a Camponotus castaneus queen to me :)

- https://imgur.com/gallery/hfotcb1 This is also a Camponotus queen and she looks like a black Camponotus turkestanus or Camponotus cf. nigriceps queen :?: Where exactly did you find her (country/state)?

- The last dark red ant is a Pogonomyrmex queen ;)

- Also don't take out the winged queens, they could have mated. Camponotus tend to take more time to lay eggs than other ant species do. Just leave them in peace and dark in a test tube setup for about a week or two and then check on them if they laid any eggs. Also Camponotus are fully claustral species, while Pogonomyrmex are semi-claustral => they need an outworld and food during their founding stage.

- Beautiful pictures btw

- Good luck!

In my opionion she looks more like a Pogonomyrmex queen. Her thorax seems too short for that of a Manica rubida queen to me :| She also seems to have a bigger square head in comparison to her thorax in the second picture. That's what is confusing me...
Here are some examples:

Could you first tell us where did you find that queen? That would make it really helpful ;)
