I found this queen (and many others like her) in mid-July in Lexington, KY. She did not make it, as you can see, and the white you see in the pictures is a bit of mold.
She is approximately 10m in length (although I think she was closer to 11-12 mm before she died and shriveled up a bit). She is black in coloration, with a bit of velvety sheen.
Any possible ID's appreciated. I was thinking Formica, possibly subsericea?
