Help

I was wondering if you would identify a couple of queens that I got (found them all in Wisconsin during camp).
1) My first queen is about 1 1/2 cm and fully black. What kind of queen is it?

2) My second queen is pretty much the same size as the first queen but is red and black.

3) The last queen I have is about 6 mm long black and has yellow legs. Is it a yellow meadow ant (lasius)?

My final question is a have a large fish tank but the only problem is that it has rubber/silicone sides and I am afraid they will climb up and escape. What do you think I could do with this problem?

Thank you for your help. This is my first time keeping ants so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Okay unfortunately basic descriptions won't help us help you we need pictures (uploaded on imgur or deviant art or some form of uploading site then post the pics via the BBC code ) you've given everything else we would need to identify it. As for your tank question a proper barrier option can be given once we figure out exactly what you have.(disregard if there are pictures AND they just aren't showing to me)

I will get a picture of my tank if you need it and any tips on keeping ants (these species or any in general) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

sounds like you caught queens in wisconsin, and transported them to arizona?

i would leave them be next time, it will be very hard on the ants living in a dry area which wont have the same winter. they might not do well if they dont get a good hibernation.

beyond that if they escape you could introduce new pathogens to the arizona ants that could harm them.

and finally theres a law in the country against transporting a queen ant across state borders.

1 Nylanderia terricola/vivulda

Shoot, well I messed up... well luckily for my Arizona is a hot spot for queen ants. I am sorry again, I didn't mean to cause any harm to the environment, anyone, or anything. Next time I will leave them be in Wisconsin or where ever I am and just be patient and catch some queens in February. Sorry again, didn't even know there was a law like that. Well, thanks for all your time and help. In February I will be sure to come back and ask what kind of species I caught. Love you guys who tried to help me and set me straight. See you in February or when ever the queen nuptial is (please help me, I heard it was February but I just wanted to make sure). Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 <3

nuptial flights vary depending on species. there are ants that fly in every month of the year, but that is a specific to which ants you get in arizona.

when you figure out which ants are availible in AZ, or which you want to look for.
this chart will help you identify when they fly.
