It recently rained, and I caught this beauty outside my apartment the next day. I had an in-flight queen from the day before (covered in males) as my first catch, but this one already started to lay eggs.
Egg laying queen was caught August 13 in Bastrop TX USA. She's about 7-7.5 mm long, honey colored and very covetous over her eggs. She doesn't want them near the water-cotton but about a quarter of the distance away from the moisture.
She doesn't seem to be any kind of Solenopsis spp since she lacks the two Petiole nodes between her thorax and abdomen.
