Found this large red ant in my backyard, I think it could be a harvester ant. Any ideas?

Eh..... that would be... not an ant. Looks like a cow killer wasp, except it doesn't look fuzzy.
Proverbs 6:6-8

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

R u sure it has different colors, the biology of an ant and is very small compared to a cow killer.

Velvet ants come in many shapes and sizes .From the Black-Headed Timulla to the Madrean velvet ant. What probably you have is a Eastern Velvet ant which contains of 7 genera and 52 species.
An ants' strength can be rivaled by few animals compared to relative body size.

Note:cowkiller, and velvet red ant are the same thing. a wingless wasp with a bad sting. not an ant.

chok it up to bad naming practices.
