Queen Ants Identification Help
First time ant keeper here. I recently caught two queens of what I believe to be tetramorium species e, but since I am a first-timer I don't really have a lot of experience to back me up, so looking for a second opinion. Or more than that.

Pics, measurments and location plz
Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

No matter what photo I send it says that the file size is too large. Any way to bypass this? In the meantime, they were both located in the Portland Metrostate area. Both are a shiny jet black coloring with a silver shine to their exoskeleton.

Re: Queen Ants Identification Help
Bit hard to tell from these pictures and without measurements... but i'm guessing Formica sp.
First year of antkeeping, already enjoying it!
Currently founding:
Lasius niger
Lasius umbratus
Lasius flavus
Still hoping to find a Formica queen.

Re: Queen Ants Identification Help
Upon close examination and intensive research, I have come to the new conclusion that the species is Formica Subsericea
Re: Queen Ants Identification Help
I just put a piece of measuring tape underneath the test tube the queen is in and then look down on it... This can be a bit tricky if she moves around a lot but usually worksVolsung333 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 13, 2018 4:19 pmI have never measured an ant before. Could you explain the process so I dont stess them out too much?
