This is the first time I've seen this species in the area I caught them at. Here's the run down.

Location Found: Mojave Desert (Nevada side)

Date/Time: These queens were caught on Monday, July, 9 at 8:30 PM - 9:30 PM. The temperature was at 95-87 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity at 22%-27%. Wind Speed was at 8 - 9 mph.

Length: 9 mm

Coloration: Abdomen is a dark black, with thin yellow lines. The top of the thorax is dark black, while the sides of the thorax are a dark red, almost maroon. The head is also dark red/maroon. The legs are a lighter color than the thorax, and are light brown in color.

Characteristics: This is the first time I've seen this species, so I don't know much about the workers, what they eat, etc. One thing I did notice with this species though, is that they are relatively calm, and slow moving. A day after, some were biting at the cotton. Others were still in their calm physique.

My rough guess is C. Vermiculata, since I'm going off of worker specimens, and is one of the only native species to this area. They also have larvae, so I will be sure to make an update. Any replies is appreciated by yours truly.

Sorry for the late response. (I'm not usually active on this forum) I used an iPhone SE with macro lens for these ones. They go a long way ;)
