I lifted up a rock and underneath I found a colony of hundreds of small ants. I captured the queen and 20-ish workers and put them in a pill case formicarium I made, unfortunate getting a lot of dirt in it along the way. The queen is about 5 mm and the workers are about 2-3 mm. The second picture is a picture of a worker that I took under a microscope a year ago. Thank you for helping me!
Ant colony ID... What are they?

I think I'm going to release them btw... I want a colony that I raise from a new queen, not an established one.

Good idea it will be much more exciting! Plus taking large colony's from the wild stresses them out and sometimes they end up dying.MCWren wrote:I think I'm going to release them btw... I want a colony that I raise from a new queen, not an established one.
With all the things ants can do, you wonder, who rules the planet
