I found this queen today in my yard on Long Island, New York. I forgot to measure her before putting her in a test tube, but I put the test tube near a ruler after and determined that she is about 10-11 millimeters long.

That is a Camponotus sp. Tetramorium does exist in New England btw.

Congrats! You got yourself a Camponotus nearcticus. Lots of people miss this one because they expect all camponotus to be huge but this one is actually smaller. The easiest way to tell with this species is one, the head is very Camponotus like, as wide as its thorax, and two the length of the gastor. If you notice, even in your photo, this queen has an oddly long gastor. They range from about 9-11 mm in length and are smaller than many other american camponotus species but are still large and still have wide camponotous camponotus heads. Take good care of her. This is a fantastic species. I absolutely love my [still young] colony.

Definitely looks like C. nearcticus, only thing I notice that is questionable is the space between the abdomen and thorax is thicker and shaped differently than what I know, could be a slight angle in the picture or maybe this area varies? Normally it's skinny then a ball-like node before the abdomen
