I need help identifying this queen.
Hi, I was at a park at 2:00 pm today, when I found this beautiful ant. It was 80F. The queen is around 1 cm long. Can you identify her and tell me if she is semi-claustral, fully-claustral, or parasitic? I suspect she is semi-claustral.

She looks like Formica sanguinea which is parasitic but not entirely sure if it is.

Isn’t that a species of “slave-making” ant? I thought it was, and had Formica Fusca as one of its hosts.

You can't really see it in the photo but on the back of her mesosoma there is a black spot.

Oh wait, they are slave making ants. But if I recall correctly, founding a queen is similar to parasitic species but you must countinuously give them new hosts since they can't feed themselves (however I did read somewhere that F. sanguinea don't neccesserily need slaves).SolenopsisKeeper wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 7:35 amIsn’t that a species of “slave-making” ant? I would not know. Where I live, we barely have any Formica . Formica subsericea hasn’t been spotted(Recorded) for decades(As of 1998 not sure if Mark Deyrup ever made updated list).SYUTEO wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 8:37 pmOh wait, they are slave making ants. Some basic antwiki reading
“ Since F. sanguinea is a facultative social parasite, the workers are capable of nursing broods also independently and slaves are not found in all colonies. ”
If slaves are not found in all colonies, that should technically mean after a certain point, they could outgrow their hosts.
