Let me be the first one to write on this topic for this year, but I am new to ant keeping in Phoenix and would really like to catch a red harvester ant queen this year. I hope I did not miss the nuptial flight and could use some pointers on where would be my best location to search.

Hey I live in Buckeye and after the recent rains that passed, and due to my work schedule... I caught my queens on my porch under the light or on my door and frame. This was the evening and morning after the storm. Make sure to have plenty of test tubes ready to catch them. I caught about 15 total. 3 were actually male alates and rest were queens of 2 different species. Before thatbi found another specie taking a walk down a lighted walking path in neighborhoods that have been developednover a few years or more where i thoughy colonies would be mature. Sure enough i did find one like 430 am walking. :) Take walks and get to know the species in your area and what habitats they typically reside in as well. Good luck!

Still would love to link with or get info from other ant keepers in phoenix too. Specie, care sheets? :) and welcome!

So that first little bit of rain storm was enough to trigger the nuptial flights? I have been looking since the rain and I havent seen a single queen. I know where a couple of mature harvester ant colonies are and I have been visiting everyday. I have even been looking for queen ant claustral chambers as a sign that i missed the flights. I live near Tempe.

Found this little beauty this morning, no clue on the identification though. Going to have to repost in the right forum for help identifying it.
