New to Ant Keeping in DC

Morning everyone, I'm Tanalos.
Just getting in to ant keeping in Virginia and hoping to catch a starting queen or two during the 2020 nup.

Had a few noobie questions for the local community.
- How many others are active in the local area?
- Are there any local meet-ups in the DC/MD area?
- What are the best local species to keep in here?
- In the event I don't get a successful queen during the nup period, what is a standard price for a starter in this area?

Thanks for your time and patience with the new guy.

Tanalos

I live in SC, so I only have an answer for the last question. Normally starter colonies are anywhere from 20$ to 60$ depending on how rare the species is.

Good Luck, and Ant Love Forever!

Correction it looks like in your area there are some colonies that are rather large right now going for 100$ 150$ and 300$ pretty pricy in my book . I would suggest you try to catch as many queens as possible otherwise you might end up spending more than your whole setup.
