Idea for disconnecting tube

Hi,

I just made a 3d model (sizes incorrect) for a way to stop the flow of ants in a tube without having to cut it or rush with a cotton ball.
Not sure if something like this would be viable to make, but I assume lots of people would want it.

You could use 2 in sequence with a small tube in between

Here are some images:

How would you disconnect the two without there being a gap?

What do you mean exactly?

There is always a chance that some escape, if you would these 2 next to eachother.
As you can see the middle part could hold some ants, but you could encourage them to move back down the tube.
Or you could be patient and wait till there are no more ants in that part :)

Here a better example of how it could work

Also gave it the name "The Ant flap"

Since I can't post links, best would be to right click the image and open it in a new tab, this gives more detail.

Oh I see how it works now, I thought there was just 1 sliding panel!

well the item would be, but you would just get 2 in a pack or so :P.
You could use them to easily split tubes up.

If wanted, I could make a millimeter precision model, I just need the diameter for the thick tubing used.

This would be epic!

Did some digging and found someone has done something similar; they have got a testtube/ connector then can connect to their formicariums and to each other.

Well that's the easy part.
The hard part is closing off the path for the ants, so you can disconnect without any escapees.

Thanks, although I don't think they need someone that can design things like this.

Since the ant farms are mostly sold out I designed one myself.

It's very small 15cmx15cm, but should be big enough for a starting colony.
