I have a question. What are duties like for people buying from Canada? And are there any promo codes?

This will entirely depend on your country and their trade deals with your country. Plus depending on what you order you have to pay duty fees and those depend mainly on the value of the items. They don't count the reason (it's a gift) because they can and will send your stuff back or keep it in customs for clearing until everything is resolved.
