Unkown (lasius?) queen dying
Checked up on my young colony just now and noticed their queen dying. It seems another worker has also died for an unknown reason, is it possible they died from a disease? I'm guessing the queen is dying from starvation (she has a very thin gaster) but the dead worker still contained fluid inside its gaster. I'm disappointed because the colony has no brood but still 3 workers alive

Try giving it a drop of sugar water and or protein
Why don’t more people like ants?
Is anyone from Wyoming who wants to sell ants?

What is your setup?
What do you feed them?
Was this a caught queen or one that you bought?
This helps me get ideas on other things that could have happened.
Can you get some pics?
And you’re welcome.

Re: Unkown (lasius?) queen dying
Thanks again, but it’s probably too late. The queen is very weak, but workers seem healthy. I separated them and placed the queen in a clean test tube last night but there’s no improvement so far. I caught this queen early in spring and put her in a test tube. Usually, I feed the colony a small chunk of mealworm or a drop of honey. Having trouble sending a pic, I’ll try to send one if I can.

Put the workers BACK in. She depends on them.

Re: Unkown (lasius?) queen dying
The queen is already curling up into the the typical dying position, but put her back in anyway. Reason why I separated them was because I though the queen was going to die right away, workers weren't feeding her via trophallaxis so seemed hopeless. If by tomorrow the queen is dead, would it be best to just refrigerate the remaining workers? They'd probably die off quickly if I released them anyway.
