So hello AC forum um so recently one of my older colonies queen of Rhytidoponera Metallica passed away suddenly. How ever to keep them going until I come up with a solution I have brood boosted them. So after doing a little research online I found that these ants are known to have gamergates, now is it possible to wait till next nuptial flights to catch a male or two and breed them with one of the workers. I’ve also read that I may be able to introduce a new queen similar how bee keepers do, ( inside a small meshed box/capsule.) open to any suggestions. Thankyou

Although I do not have these ants in my countries, I think that if you wait for nuptial flight season for these Ants you could posibly catch a male!

So it’s just as easy as introducing a male or two into the out world? That’s easy enough if anyone else knows about the introducing a queen thing would be greatly appreciated

How old was your colony?

I caught the Queen (who died) in September last year

Forgot to add the queen o lit died recently past week

And also another question does the male have to be found and introduced to the new colony during spring (R Metallica’s Nuptials)
