My first queen, don't know what I did wrong but she died 5 days after capture.. She was in a test tube setup and covered with a towel to reduce vibrations and keep it dark. Temp is probably 77 F in our house. Any ideas? I don't think she is a social parasite because her head was so small

Can we see pictures of her set up and her herself if you still have her?

The most likely scenario is that she wasn't mated.

Lots of queens just don’t make it.

I was literally about to say this.

Nature has a natural kill switch in ants and dozens of other creatures around the world. Particularly insects. This is nature's way of controlling over population world wide.
For this reason alone it is adviced to catch about 3 queen's so you have a solid chance at having a colony. It's a sad but true fact and one we can never control. I am sorry you lost your queen.

I had 11 Lasius Niger queen's all in the same set ups all looked after the same way.
5 survived.
