Mealworms stay in the fridge, and you take them out every few weeks for feeding
I am not sure on roaches, but I know not all ants like mealworms. Crickets are more widely liked by ants(In my experience in Southern USA ants), as not one of my ant colonies denies crickets(Unless they are too big).
Another great option is flightless fruit flies. Almost all ant species like these, and they don’t require feeding! They also survive on their own, breeding, for months! I use these also, as you don’t have to kill them. I feed mine live, as it won’t harm the ants. I also have less sympathy for flies…

I use mealworms since I'm scared to death by roaches. But the mealworms are dead, the ants eat them. Are dead or live mealworms good for ants?
I have found more queens!
-Polyrhachis laevissima (left only queen)
-Pheidole parva (TOO MUCH)
-Iridomyrmex Anceps
-Polyrhachis dives
Hope to catch camponotus soon...

Depending on the size of your colony. For the founding colony, use pre-crushed mealworm; for the big colony, it depends on you to choose which one, live or killed.AntsAreCool715 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 6:12 amI use mealworms since I'm scared to death by roaches. Live mealworms hurt the workers, even in large Odontomachus colonies. I have tried. Usually, the ants don’t kill the prey and it escapes into the substrate.Joshua09 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 5:41 pmDepending on the size of your colony.
