Flies and gnats are usually a sign that your mealworm container smells bad, usually due to dead mealworms, high humidity or uneaten food. Remove any uneaten food and don't let the container get too moist.
what is the good substrate that i can use for mealworm? because when i buy mine...the substrate itself smelled bad...
Try oatmeal.
Thank you,i will try it

The question of whether or not this topic is in the right section, What does your container look like? Could you send a picture?
Where do you get your mealworms from? Do you keep your mealworms inside of a fridge?
nah,i don't have fridge on my dorm...so i just put them in a small plastic jar with small holes on top instead...
Then you should try and remove the mealworms that are dead. If you had a fridge the flies would first not be able to get to the container and second the mealworms wouldn't smell at all. Maybe you should try to put the mealworm container inside another container.

For substrate I use sawdust that I got from working with some wood I have at home. But only from working with unmodified wood that came straight from some branch or tree.
Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

They will be okay. Other ant keepers keep them togather as well. It wont be overcrowded.

It should be fine. When I buy a box with mealworms they usually come in much smaller containers and I guess they just try to stay warm as it's in there nature to search warmer temperaturs. In nature that would be deep under the ground where it's nice and warm. At least relative to what insects usually encounter in the wild.

They have enough space to move and are not all squeezed into one small container so it should be fine. ;)

but how do you feed them though? some of them just stay on the bottom and won't come up.

Just place food on top of them, the ones at the bottom will come up eventually.

I literally don't feed the mealworms. But if you feed them you can give them carrot slices. They don't make the container super moist. Btw since I keep my mealworm in the fridge they are basically always hibernating.
