Every time i put honey in my ants test tube they drown no matter how little i put. Sugar water in a connected test tube also doesn't seem to interest them. Any safe ideas?

What species of ant are you keeping? Some species of ants are carnivorous and won't eat honey or sugar water.
Keeping:
1 Odontomachus simillimus colony
2 Odontoponera queens
1 Camponotus parius colony
1 Camponotus sp colony
2 Camponotus irritans colonies
1 Myrmicaria carinata queen
Are you amazed? :D

im not sure I have tried several times to post pics but i dont have a good camera and nobody has been able to identify them. I have seen them eat mealworms moths and spiders. But sugar has been challenging as there small and drown in even the smallest honey i could get in the testtube.

You can try a little bit of fruit and see if they will eat it, the most best fruit will be apple. They will most probably not drown because the apple's sourface won't have that much water for your ants to drown in. Only put a small piece about the size of the queen
Keeping:
1 Odontomachus simillimus colony
2 Odontoponera queens
1 Camponotus parius colony
1 Camponotus sp colony
2 Camponotus irritans colonies
1 Myrmicaria carinata queen
