I have since moved the colony into a tubs and tubes setup and they appear much happier,

They even moved some cotton back in, to make the entrance smaller.

It sounds like they’re performing a lot of the routine functions and duties of an ant colony, which to me is a sign of a healthy colony! I’m glad they’re doing well in the new set up.
