Hi, I was just wondering if sand is suitable for my Lasus niger out world? The sand is approx 1 inch deep
Many thanks.

Dont know if its suitable for that species, could eb (probably is, ant are not that picky) but make sure the sand is bone dry, otherwise they will build a home there instead...... Actually, I would say yes, sand is suitable for them, put soe air plants in there as well just for some terrain. (I think sand is okey because the Lasius niger is a pavement ant and it builds nests in sand between blocks commonly, if I have gotten my species info right)

Thank you for your help and info, I will get some air plants and a small rock to place in the out world. Whenever I see ant nests in the pavement there is always sand at the entrance and I will make sure it's dry
I will place a water/cotton wool test tube in there for their water but it will be a while yet, just want to be ready and prepared.

Just to let you know, they will drag large amounts of sand into the hybrid... This will make it difficult to see them.

Many thanks for the advice and I will take that on board. Maybe I will use some gravel instead.
