Questions about homemade formicarium.

So the gears in my head have been turning non stop. And my design has undergone several changes. But I have a couple more questions.

1. How far can the out world be from the colony? I want to make sure they use the out word for garbage and cemetery.

2. For the non climbing species, what kind of angle of pvc would they still be able to climb?

I think i read somewhere that a 45 degree angle is hard for most ants in tubing, With the smooth surface it has.
so i think something less steep than 40 degree's is probably for the best.
