So trying to be thrifty I chose to look for cheaper alternatives like the one in the title... I am here to warn you while it may look cool the design is seriously flawed. They use a sturdy rubber band to fasten the outworld which creates spaces. I started to transfer my Lasius Flavus colony in not realizing this but soon discovered workers foraging outside the formicarium. Luckily they hadn't moved out of their old set up yet so I stopped the transfer attempt. So then I thought to myself well what if I just glue all the edges... so I did that and then transferred my young Lasius Neoniger colony into it. Still did not get all the gaps and the lid is is not snug... You can fix the lid by just setting something with a bit of weight on top... I used my small filet knife that I cut insects in half with. I bought two so the second I was like well let me use it for my Lasius Niger... Big mistake... its been attached for a month and the queen has yet to move... workers and unmated queens live in the bottom portions... Also larger species create a ton of waste and cleaning these requires alot of work
.. My warning and advice... don't go cheap stick with AC or other reputable brands.

Re: DIY Acrylic Formicariums... DO NOT
I'm thinking about making a DIY acrylic terrarium, but was planning on using acrylic cement rather than rubber bands. Were you using a kit? Can you send more info on what you bought so I can try to avoid it?
Re: DIY Acrylic Formicariums... DO NOT
It all depends on the design and the tools available. I tried making DIY nests before and it is hard, you have to invest something to make them.
#1. Know your ants, small ants are not advised to be in DIY nests
#2. Remember to have a seeing port, humidity system and more that one way in and out
#3. Test it, take some workers from outside, or if you have a large colony, from them. Then put them inside for a day or two and see if they can find a way out.
