what is the outworld barrier that keeps the ants in? Talc + alchohol is effective in starting colony but as the colony grow, they can pass through it in no time.now im using petroleum jelly, hope this works. Any suggestion?

Insect-a-slip is the best
It's a little expensive, but it's the best and a bottle lasts a long time.

I agree, Fluon/PTFE is really the best deterent.

Some people use olive oil, but I've never tried it.

I use extra virgin olive oil to prevent escapes, and it works for my Camponotus, Tetramorium, Formica, and Tapinoma colonies. I put a few drops of extra virgin olive oil on a cotton ball and apply a 1-2" band around the top of my outworlds (on vertical wall surfaces). I reapply a new band of olive oil every 3-6 weeks to keep it fresh and slick...in my 2-1/2 years of ant keeping I've never had any ants escape using this method.

I was using the rubbing alcohol +baby powder method for about a year, but my tetramorium would cross it if they felt hungry. I recently figured out that it is a lot harder for them to cross it if you dont use the rubbing alcohol. I just sprinkle some baby powder indo a bowl, and dip a cotton ball into it. then i dab the baby powder all over the rim. As far as I know, no escapees!

That's odd. I'll have to try that now.

The rubbing alcohol is for the baby powder to stick onto the glass/wall, so it's interesting to see the method prevailing without it. Thanks for the tip.

When you watch mikey's videos, you can see that he uses that method quite often.
