$20 Fluon vs $2 Teflon Ant Barrier

I see that ant barrier questions are asked very frequently here. Invariably the answer is "Fluon/PTFE".

4 oz of Fluon / ETFE (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ETFE)
$23: https://www.bioquip.com/search/DispProduct.asp?pid=2871A
$40: https://tarheelants.com/products/fluon-1
$104: https://www.amazon.com/byFormica-Ant-Products-Prevention-Climbing/dp/B00UJLH12A

4 oz of Teflon / PTFE (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polytetrafluoroethylene)
$2.46: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BCVXUR6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Apparently, Teflon and Fluon are different brands of very similar chemicals. Is Teflon more toxic than Fluon to ants? Somehow less effective? Thanks for help.

I would just give it a try but this is my very first colony. Queen + 7 Nanitics. I don't want to screw this up!

that is madeningly confusing.

seems to me that PTFE and ETFE are very different, but the manufacturers might not know what they are doing. I found brands of fluon labeled as PTFE and some labeled ETFE.

does that mean they are using different chemicals? or just have no idea what they are doing?

changing just one atom can be pretty big deal. O2 breathable O3 ozone.

or this old joke. two men sit at a bar, one says can i get a glass of H2O ? the other man looked wide eyed snickered and said ill have H2Otoo.
that man died.

i know my wife freaks out about teflon pans being deadly to her birds, i wonder on this liquid teflon being worse. or if the whole topic being a a big giant waste of time. people who have no evidence freaking out based on antiscience mentality.

i hate to break it to her. i line every water pipe in teflon tape to prevent leaks.

Okay my wife says teflon is fine unless its heated....

which tells me she doesnt like ETFE (which is combustible to a harmful gas) not afraid of PTFE.

still anecdotal.

but dupont has the evaporation at room temperature for some gases, and Louisiana room temperature for others.

still anecdotal, is there a reputable source for its harmful side effects?

sorry i keep posting.

This website claims it is because of the highly effecient lung systems of birds. other mammals are fine.
insects are probably fine too unless you coat absolutley all inside unventilated surfaces.

but it claims the gas is released at very high temperatures, but dupont gives low temperatures.
last time post i swear.

Makes sense since birds have an extra lung sack that has a mad function (going off memory here so bare with me) but birds have that sack for when they exhale the fill this sack with extra oxygen and when they inhale not only do they take in fresh oxygen from the air they also double on that oxygen due to this extra lung sack. It was discovered that some dinosaurs had this very same lung sack like the t-rex (apparently) with its effect to give it a longer sprint duration.
This is why birds can fly for such long distances, not only because they can relax and glide.

Tho thinking about holding my arms out wide for a long time is not that relaxing, anyone have an extra lung sack I can borrow?

But yeah I recently read ants to not have lungs like us and birds and what not.
Research is important before during and even after you have established a colony. There is always time to learn and to listen to others experiences. Live by this and your ants will thrive. Fail to do so and your experience may be brief.

New here but you should look at the lawsuits regarding Teflon toxicity to humans. I can't account for how bad Fluon is to people but it is documented fact that Teflon causes birth defects and other health issues and they've known about it for decades.
